Paver & Patio Calculator

Updated Aug 24, 2026 Reviewed Aug 24, 2026
Estimate pavers, packs, compacted base, bedding, joint-sand bags, edge restraint, allowances, and optional component costs.

Pavers, supporting layers, and edges

Enter paved areas and product specifications

1

Area 1

Optional; leave empty when sold individually.

Extra loose base used to reach the planned compacted layer.

Use package coverage for this paver and joint.

Uses the entered open perimeter of every area.

Preliminary material takeoff
Enter layer depths from an approved plan. Soil, drainage, loads, climate, pattern, borders, and cuts can change quantities.

Pavers, base, bedding, joint sand, and edges remain separate quantities.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Add each paved area and its open perimeter.
  2. 2Enter actual paver, joint, base, and bedding dimensions.
  3. 3Replace joint-sand coverage and prices with supplier data.

Formula

Pavers = ceil(area ÷ module area × (1 + waste)); base = area × depth × (1 + compaction)

Unit count uses the paver-plus-joint module; layers are calculated separately.

Calculation steps

  • Sum areas and perimeters.
  • Calculate pavers and waste.
  • Calculate base and bedding volumes.
  • Round bags and packs upward.
  • Total entered prices.

Worked example

A 20 m² patio with 20 cm × 10 cm pavers, 3 mm joints, 10% waste, 15 cm base, and 2.5 cm bedding creates separate quantities.

Assumptions

  • Pattern and cuts affect count.
  • Layer depths come from the plan.
  • Compaction is user-entered.
  • Joint sand uses package coverage.
  • Shared edges must be removed from perimeter.

Frequently asked questions

Why add waste?

It covers project-specific cuts, breakage, pattern effects, and spares.

Does this choose base depth?

No. Enter an approved project depth.

Why enter joint-sand coverage?

Density, chamfers, width, and depth vary; package coverage is more reliable.

Can it estimate a curved patio?

Yes for preliminary area and volume, but layout cuts need a takeoff.

Does cost include labor?

No. It totals entered material prices only.

Mulch & Soil Calculator
Estimate mulch, topsoil, or compost volume, whole bags, allowance, excess, and optional material cost across multiple areas.
Gravel Calculator
Estimate gravel, crushed stone, road base, river rock, or sand volume, weight, bags, allowances, and optional cost from area and layer depth.
Area Calculator
Calculate the area of a rectangle from its length and width, then convert the result between metric and imperial area units.
Retaining Wall Calculator
Estimate courses, blocks, caps, aggregate, core fill, drain pipe, user-specified geogrid, and optional material cost.
