Weekly hours preview
Paid hours by weekday
How to use this calculator
- 1Enable the weekdays worked and enter each shift’s start, end, and unpaid break.
- 2Enter one hourly rate, currency, weekly overtime threshold, and overtime multiplier.
- 3Calculate to review daily paid hours, regular and overtime totals, and estimated gross pay.
Formula
Gross pay = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × overtime multiplier
Each enabled shift subtracts its unpaid break. Weekly hours are divided at the editable threshold and priced with the entered regular rate and multiplier.
Calculation steps
- Validate enabled start and end times and ensure each unpaid break is shorter than its shift.
- Treat an end time earlier than the start as an overnight shift.
- Sum paid minutes across enabled weekdays and convert them to decimal hours.
- Split total hours at the editable weekly overtime threshold.
- Calculate regular pay, overtime pay, and their gross total in the selected currency.
Worked example
Five 8-hour paid weekdays total 40 hours. At 25 per hour with a 40-hour threshold and 1.5× multiplier, estimated gross pay is 1,000 with no overtime.
Assumptions
- All enabled rows belong to one workweek and use one hourly rate.
- Break minutes are unpaid and subtracted from the corresponding shift.
- An end time earlier than the start time is treated as the following day.
- The overtime threshold and multiplier are editable planning inputs, not a legal determination.
- Gross pay excludes taxes, deductions, bonuses, differentials, paid leave, commissions, and other compensation rules.

Frequently asked questions
Does this determine legally required overtime?
No. Threshold and multiplier are editable estimates. Coverage, exemptions, regular-rate rules, agreements, and local law require separate verification.
How are overnight shifts handled?
An enabled end time earlier than its start time is treated as occurring on the following calendar day.
Are breaks paid?
The entered break minutes are treated as unpaid and subtracted. Enter zero when no unpaid break should be removed.
Does gross pay include taxes or deductions?
No. It only prices regular and overtime hours and does not estimate take-home pay.
Can different days use different pay rates?
Not in this version. All enabled shifts use one hourly rate; separate-rate and weighted-average calculations need a dedicated workflow.
